Are Grounding Sheets Safe? Unlocking the Truth
The Comfort And Safety Of Grounding Sheets: Ensuring You Can Embrace Wellness With Confidence
Welcome to BeGrounded, the UK’s leading supplier of Earthing® grounding products and for all your top tips and products for grounding safely indoors.
If you’ve been around the wellness and biohacking space then you’ve probably heard about grounding (also known as earthing). It’s grown in popularity and a hot topic as people look to be more involved with, and take control of, their own health journey.
Our recommendation is that sleeping grounded is THE best way of connecting to the earth for a prolonged time as it’s convenient, and it’s also when your body is in its natural rest and repair state.
Sleeping grounded also means that there is less pressure or requirement to ground during the day (although we recommend that too!). It just means that if you can’t slip your shoes off and connect to the soil, or the weather is awful, or the ground is muddy, then you don’t have to because you’ve had a full night’s sleep of direct contact with the earth through a sleep mat or sheet.
…..But Are Grounding Sheets Safe?
In short, absolutely they are safe, however not all sleep solutions are equal when considering sleeping grounded
What Are Grounding Sheets?…….And Why The Newer Earthing® Elite™ Sleep Mats Are Now The Best Option
Grounding sheets, also known as earthing sheets, are bed linens (typically cotton) integrated with conductive materials that connect to the earth via the ground port of your wall socket which is, in turn, connected to the ground wire of your home. Electrons flow from the ground outside, along the copper ground wire, via the wall socket adapter and cord and into the sheet or sleep mat.
Whichever brand of grounding sleep sheet or mat you opt for, you must first check that they are safe to use and the first thing you should ask is what happens if there is a short circuit whilst grounding indoors?
Safety first with ALL Earthing® branded products as they are supplied with a connector cord that has a built-in (moulded in) in-line, current-limiting 100 Kilo-Ohms resistor. This means that in the event that a short circuit develops in an electrical device that a person is in contact with whilst grounded, the built-in resistor limits the current flow to a safe level.
The accepted safe electrical current limit of 5-8mA (milliampere) is defined as “sensation of shock not painful; individuals can let go at will”, and the human body threshold is 1mA.
With the 100 Kilo-Ohms resistor in place, Earthing® calculate the maximum current to be 1.3mA, which is well below the accepted safety limit of 5-8mA and most likely barely perceptible.
Many brands on the market typically have a blend of cotton and silver or other conductive threads woven throughout, however the durability of these sheets is brought into question, and often last no longer than 6 months.
Silver, especially, oxidises easily through exposure to moisture from sweat, oils and regular washing. Oxidation forms metal oxides that insulate rather than conduct, making your sheet ineffective meaning your investment in your health is worthless.
The solution is to invest in a reputable brand and our recommendation is the Earthing® Elite™ Sleep Mats which have a conductive carbon layer on top of the silver thread grid. Carbon is an abundant element in our body and so is highly conductive and this design guarantees that ground connection and lasts for many years.
Can I Become Electrocuted If I Use An Earthing® Sleep Mat or product?
No.
Earthing® products and the connector cords are designed to only conduct the earth’s energy to your body. They do not conduct any electrical power that operates your lights and appliances.
The Safety Of Grounding:
Grounding is a natural healing energy and something that we evolved with throughout history. We used to be in constant contact with the earth as we lived barefoot for much of history. Only recently has that disconnect become apparent with the invention of rubber-soled shoes, and our changing work life as we moved off the farm land and into offices. So direct contact with the earth is natural.
Grounding Sheet Safety Checklist:
- Have you purchased a reputable brand with a good track record?
(Earthing® have been in business suppling grounding solutions for 22+ years)
- Is the sheet or sleep mat made of high quality and durable materials?
(Earthing® sleep mats have a strong and durable conductive carbon layer that also have natural, anti-microbial qualities)
- Test your socket with a Socket Checker to ensure it is correctly grounded and adheres to safety standards.
(If you are unsure about the ground wire in your home, then you can simply use a Ground Rod to connect to the earth outside, or ask a qualified electrician to resolve the issue)
What Are The Benefits Of Using Grounding Sheets or Grounding Sleep Mats at night?
- Improved Sleep Quality:
Many users report that grounding sheets help them fall asleep faster and enjoy a deeper, more restful sleep. By neutralising the body’s electrical charge, grounding sheets may help align your body’s circadian rhythms, promoting better sleep patterns.
- Reduced Inflammation and Pain:
Grounding has anti-inflammatory effects. By reducing inflammation, grounding sheets can help alleviate chronic pain and improve recovery from injuries. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with arthritis or other inflammatory conditions.
- Enhanced Mood and Energy:
Connecting with the earth’s electrons can promote a sense of calm and well-being. Users often report feeling more energised and less stressed, contributing to a positive mood and improved mental clarity.
By incorporating grounding sheets into your nightly routine, you can experience the nurturing power of the earth from the comfort of your bed. Dive into the world of grounding with confidence and let the earth’s gentle energy enhance your health and well-being.
Sweet dreams!
